Public Health Evidence Review & Synthesis Team
A Public Health Review team delivering high quality evidence synthesis projects to meet the needs of policymakers and practitioners, improve population health and tackle inequalities
The Public Health Evidence Review & Synthesis Team (PHERST), led by Professors Liddy Goyder and Andrew Booth, brings together a talented group of experts from the Sheffield Centre for Health & Related Research (SCHARR) and the University of Sheffield, alongside a network of specialist advisors.
We are an experienced public health evidence synthesis team with unrivalled experience of delivering public health reviews, who originally collaborated on the NIHR Public Health Review Team (2019 - 2025). We work closely with policymakers, topic experts, commissioners, practitioners, experts by experience and the wider public to ensure that all our outputs are as useful as possible to decision makers at every level and maximise the impact of our reviews on population health and health inequalities.
Our team conducts high-quality evidence reviews to guide the design and implementation of public health interventions. These reviews aim to improve health and wellbeing while addressing health inequalities. By combining deep expertise in both subject matter and methodology, and by fostering strong collaborations with policymakers, practitioners, and diverse communities, we ensure our work meets the needs of decision-makers across various sectors and organisations.
To maximise the impact of our findings, we actively engage with national and local policymakers, practitioners, and the wider community. Through innovative and creative knowledge mobilisation materials, we make the evidence we uncover accessible and actionable, empowering informed decisions that drive meaningful change.
We welcome opportunities to expand our network, build our body of research and share our findings; if you would like to connect with us please see our Contact page.
